X10 Living

A Resource For Being Self-Sufficient

Update July 14th 2024

Hurricane Beryl came through on July 8th, which took out power at my home - fortunately I was ready with a generator. It also took out power at X10 Archery Academy on the 13th! Power was not lost during the storm, but was still considered part of the general outage with a restoration date of the 17th. This prompted me to compile a page about generators under the survival section. I hope you find it useful!

Hello and welcome!

My name is Lynda Whitehead, and I am passionate about self-sufficiency and sustainable living. Originally from the UK, I have always had a deep appreciation for nature and the environment. When I moved to the countryside in Texas, I discovered the joys of homesteading and have been hooked ever since. I am now living my dream, growing my own food (not in 2024), and living a simpler, more fulfilling life.

In addition to running an Archery Academy in Houston, TX, I also created this little space on the interwebz to share my knowledge and experience with others, having lost so much during Hurricane Harvey, so I may provide pointers and trusted resources to help others.

This website is all about helping you learn how to grow your own food, preserve it, be prepared for anything, and live a more sustainable lifestyle, regardless of whether you are a seasoned homesteader or just starting out.

We understand the value of your time, so we keep everything short and sweet, except for your garden, which we want to be as tall as possible. Actually, there will be short stuff, too. Lettuce is short. However, there was this one time with the Bronze Mignonette Lettuce... it was wild! Our blog posts may get a bit lengthy at times, but we promise to get straight to the point. Speaking of simplicity, our seeds packaging is straightforward - no glossy printed envelopes or marketing cards in every order. You won't find custom boxes with our name and website plastered all over it either. Our carbon footprint is minimal, and we take great pride in doing our part to minimize waste. Our seeds will be listed soon...

As Founder & President of X10 Archery Academy, USA Archery Level 4 NTS Coach and coach trainer, mum, biker, Jeeper, gardener, amateur radio operator, and thinker, I have been exposed to parts of life that many have not. I have seen the world taking a turn for the worse for many years and have made my own provisions for the future. My heart goes out to the many who have not seen this coming, have no idea what to do, and may be paralyzed with fear of the unknown. It doesn't have to be hard, but it's not necessarily going to be easy either. However, providing for yourself is doable. Let's do this!
